In addition to spending time on the sand and in the water, there are numerous activities that the whole family will enjoy in and around Fort Myers Beach. With a location close to Sanibel Island, Cape Coral, the City of Fort Myers and numerous state and city parks, Fort Myers Beach and surrounding areas have something to satisfy every interest and age. Even if you stay on the island, there plenty of enjoyable ways, both active and quiet, to spend your time.

Family Bike Rides

Bicycling is a fun way to explore Fort Myers Beach and Estero Island at a leisurely pace. There are several bike rental business that even deliver to your vacation home. Though your rental period can be as short as a couple of hours, keeping the bikes for several days will be more fun, especially for kids and teens.

Kayaking

Kayaking is a somewhat more adventurous way to explore the island. Naturally, your perspective will be different from the water than the land. While ocean kayaking can be fun, less experienced kayakers may feel safer on the bay side of the island. Estero Bay Preserve State Park has hundreds of acres of protected water and wetlands. It’s the perfect location for seeing Florida’s natural features up close. Several business on the island rent kayaks by the hour, day or week. Most of them also offer instruction and guided tours.

Hang Out in Times Square

While not as busy as Times Square in New York City, Fort Myers Beach Times Square is still a hub of local activity. The two block long, wide pedestrian street is paved with patterns and colors inspired by the adjacent beach. It is dotted with palm trees and has plenty of places to sit and people watch. There are several restaurants, bars and grills with outdoor seating. A couple of them have beachside decks. You might decide to browse through locally owned shops or have an ice cream as you stroll out Fort Myers Beach Pier to watch the sunset.

Times Square is right next to Lynn Hall Memorial Park, which has public parking, beach access and restrooms.

Activity Parks

Water and amusement parks are always a big hit with the younger set during beach vacations. There are a couple of water activity parks, miniature golf and adventure golf courses a short distance inland from Fort Myers Beach on San Carlos Boulevard and Summerlin Road. They are a fun place to take the kids for a half-day break from the beach or as part of an all day excursion to Sanibel Island, Pine Island or a state park.
